Rather than bore you with a long list of movie criticisms, let me share with you some of the internet's resources I've found to be very useful in selecting which movies to see, which movies to spend my time and money on.

The Internet Movie Database is perhaps the oldest link. I've been using it for a number of years, when it had an ".edu" suffix, before it became a commercial operation. This place has the information on many thousands of movies. An invaluable resource for motion picture fans. You can find almost anything here, new or old.

Screen-It is perhaps for non-movie fans who want information about a film before taking their children to a movie, or allowing their children to go to a movie. The rating system (G, PG, PG-13, etc) is very broad and non-specific. This site goes into great detail, giving specific details about different facets of a movie that some might find objectionable. I've found PG-13 movies I wouldn't take kids to, and R rated movies I've encouraged kids to see. One caveat: this site, because of it's nature, often contains "spoilers" - details that give away the plot of a movie. So if you "don't want to see how it comes out" peruse this site carefully.  There's a free version, as well as a subscription option.


MetaCritic is a page I discovered recently.  It compiles reviews from many other places, gives that review a rank, and then averages all the reviews into a single number.  It also has clickable links to the reviews, as well as a score from views.  Helps avoid the duds.
